Domestic dispute cited in Mt. Vernon

MOUNT VERNON — Police converged on the village area Monday night after a report of a domestic disturbance.

Maine State Police Lt. Donald Pomelow said police received a report that a husband had assaulted his wife and was threatening suicide.

“We had several troopers respond and take up positions around the residence,” Pomelow said.

The wife subsequently recanted her story, Pomelow said, and told police no assault had taken place.

“The husband was very agitated over the whole incident but had not committed any crimes,” Pomelow said.

The husband stayed at the home and the wife spent the night elsewhere, Pomelow said.

There were no charges in connection with the incident.

Augusta, Monmouth police break up party

Police from Augusta and Monmouth were among the nearly two-dozen officers that were called to Greene Sunday to break up a boisterous bash.

Androscoggin County Sheriff Deputies and the Maine Game Wardens responded to multiple complaints of a loud party on Quaker Ridge Road around 1 a.m., Sunday. Maine State Police Trooper Ricci Cote told the Lewiston Sun Journal that the partygoers initially turned down the music, but turned it back up before officers even left the home.

Partygoers then started taunting and yelling at the officers, Cote said.

About 20 law enforcement officers — including Maine State Police troopers from as far away as Augusta and Gray and the commercial vehicle and turnpike divisions, as well Monmouth and Sabattus police — joined Androscoggin County deputies and wardens at the home to break up the party, Cote told the Sun Journal.

Homeowners Daniel Poland, 57, and his wife, Vicki Poland, 56, were charged with disorderly conduct.

Vicki Poland also was charged with failure to disperse.

Their son, Jared Poland, 30, of Pensicola, Fla., was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and refusing to sign a criminal summons.

Daniel Poland’s brother, Craig Poland, 48, address unknown, was subdued by a Taser and arrested on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
