AUGUSTA — Firefighters quickly extinguished an early morning fire at the Gray Birch Apartments.
The fire started in George and Shirley Derosier’s bathroom. They live on the first floor in apartment 107.
Shirley Derosier her husband heard the fire alarm in their apartment and smelled smoke.
“He called the fire department,” Derosier said waiting with other residents outside the building in the care of Gardiner rescue workers. “I was coming home from rehab and saw all these fire trucks. I didn’t know what was happening. Nothing like coming home to that.”
Augusta, Gardiner and Togus units were at the scene.
