DEXTER — Ashes from a woodstove likely started a fire Friday morning at a house that was the scene of a triple murder earlier this year, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Shore Road house has been rented by another family since June 13, when Steven Lake shot and killed his wife, Amy, and their two children, before killing himself.

Fire Investigators said ashes from the house’s woodstove were disposed of outside and ignited leaves and grass. The fire then spread to the outside of the building.

No one was injured and the quick response by firefighters stopped the fire from causing significant damage to the two-story house, investigators said.
