JACKMAN — A Jackman woman was injured Wednesday morning when her car smashed through a telephone pole.

Police said Nancy Minard, 62, was distracted when she tried to retrieve information from her cellphone.

When she took her eyes off Route 15, she drifted across the oncoming lane and struck the utility pole head-on, Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi, with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, said in a release.

A passerby saw her 2000 blue Chrysler and stopped to take her to the Jackman Region Health Center, Gottardi said. Minard suffered minor injuries.

Reported at 7:49 a.m., the crash shut down Route 15 for about an hour while Central Maine Power Co. replaced the broken pole. The vehicle was destroyed.

Cpl. Eugene Cole responded, in addition to U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Jackman-Moose River Fire Department. Gottardi said the district attorney’s office will review the crash to determine whether charges should be filed against the driver.
