AUGUSTA — Eastern Maine champion Washburn pulled away from Richmond in the second half and defeated the Bobcats, 60-35, in the Class D girls basketball championship game Saturday afternoon.
It was the second straight Gold Ball for the Beavers, who beat Richmond, 43-30, in last year’s Class D final.
Freshman Mackenzie Worcester, a 5-foot-5 guard, had 24 points and eight rebounds for Washburn. Olivia Doody added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior forward Jamie Plummer had 14 points and 20 rebounds for Richmond. The Bobcats made just 14 of their 65 field goal attempts on the day.
