WATERVILLE — A man wearing only his underpants was arrested late Thursday after police found him inside a dentist’s office.

The man, Jared Hebert, 26, of 126 Carver St., was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief after police responded to an alarm at Esthetic and Reconstructive Dentistry at 98 Silver St., Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Friday.

Officer Andrew McMullen was first at the scene around 10:45 p.m. and saw that the front door to the business had been kicked in, Rumsey said. Other officers responded.

“Mr. Hebert was inside the building wearing only a pair of underwear,” he said. “It was very cold, and it was snowing. Mr. Hebert was taken into custody. The officers on scene were very concerned because he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Hebert, who was not communicative, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Campus, Rumsey said. Hebert was found to have a very high blood alcohol level, he said.

After he was medically cleared at the hospital, he was taken to the police department and charged, according to Rumsey.

“He was not combative with the officers,” he said.

Rumsey said officers found his clothing in the office.

“We found out later on when some of his friends came down to the station to try to locate him that he had been to at least one local bar during the night,” he said.

Rumsey said there did not appear to be any damage to the inside of the office and that nothing was stolen.

“It appears at this time that this is a case of somebody who had way too much to drink and did something foolish,” he said.

Hebert is scheduled to appear in Waterville District Court at 1 p.m. May 22.
