FARMINGTON — A 19-year-old man faces multiple charges after admitting he crashed his father’s sport utility vehicle into a utility line off Temple Road and ran off, police said.

The man, Joseph Metcalf, of Farmington, told police he was out for a ride when he crashed the Ford Explorer into the utility pole anchoring line Monday about 3 p.m., according to Rachel Heseltine, a Farmington police spokeswoman.

Officers found the SUV abandoned at the scene by Metcalf, who shortly after the crash was stopped by police while he was walking alongside Porter Hill Road, Heseltine said, citing police reports.

Metcalf was summonsed on charges of operating after suspension, operating beyond permit restrictions and leaving the scene of an accident. He does not have a driver’s license and his permit had been suspended in connection with a failure to pay fines charge, Heseltine said.

His father’s car had side-panel damage and was towed from the scene. Central Maine Power Co. was called to repair the damaged utility pole line, she said.
