RICHMOND — Six people are facing charges of underage drinking after an early-morning traffic stop on Main Street.

Richmond Police Officer Gary Hickey stopped a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after Lincoln County deputies asked officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle, which allegedly had left a drinking party, said Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster.

“As the officer was getting the (warning), the vehicle was going by,” MacMaster said.

Hickey, assisted by state and Sagadahoc County police, arrested passenger Joshua Thomas, 20, of Brunswick, on three warrants charging failure to provide a correct name, address and date of birth; theft; trespassing; and violating conditions of release. Thomas, who was charged at the traffic stop with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption, was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

Driver Samantha Kirkwood, 18, of Topsham, was issued summonses charging her with illegal transportation of liquor by a minor and operating a motor vehicle with an open alcohol container.

Four others were issued summonses charging each with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption. Those charged were James Vanover, 20, of Brunswick; Sheila Duffy, 20, of West Bath; Robert Railton, 19, of Jefferson; and Benjamin Farley, 19, of Freeport.
