AUGUSTA — Budget hearings are under way on Gov. Paul LePage’s $38 million supplemental budget.

Members of the Appropriations Committee will take public comments today on proposed cuts to the Maine Clean Election fund, higher education, and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network.

Also, lawmakers will hear what people think of proposed tax cuts for retirees and certain military personnel.

So far, about 20 people have signed up to testify.

On Thursday, the committee will review proposed cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services, including job cuts at the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in Bangor.
