SIDNEY — The Sidney Historical Society has committed itself to a goal of identifying and recognizing all veterans with a Sidney connection. The society has formed a veterans memorial committee to honor those who have served and to preserve their personal stories and make them part of the permanent record of the town of Sidney.

To realize this goal, veterans, their families and community members are asked to provide biographical data, reminiscences of service and stories of the lives they led after returning home.

The memorial committee would like to meet with veterans and interested community members, to discuss current committee projects.

The organization seeks input on the following:

* Creating a memorial to honor the veterans of all eras by expanding the small World War II memorial located in front of the town office.

* The addition of veterans’ names to the list of Sidney veterans that are compiling and find a solution to permanently display those names.

* Discuss ways the community can continue to honor veterans, such as Memorial Day celebrations.

* Seek ideas on an interview process in which students and committee members can speak with veterans and record stories.

The committee’s next meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday in the town office conference room.
