CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy says its two-month, 2012 cruise will take students, officers and crew to the southern U.S. and tropical ports.

The training ship State of Maine will sail May 8 and return to Castine following a June 22-25 call in Charleston, S.C.

The ship’s port calls include Galveston, Texas, from May 18-21; Wilemstad, Curaçao, from June 1-4; St. Georges, Bermuda, from June 11-14; and then Charleston before sailing back to Maine.

The training cruise, an annual tradition giving students hands-on training, can be tracked by the public on the academy’s website.
