AUGUSTA — The Natural Resources Council of Maine, 3 Wade St., will offer a Going Solar Earth Day celebration and talk from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday.

A new solar-powered electricity-producing photovoltaic array and a talk about solar energy given by ReVision Energy. There is no cost and all are welcome. Desserts and beverages will be served.

Carson named Winthrop town clerk

WINTHROP — Lauri Carson, of Winthrop, is the new town clerk.

A deputy clerk for more than seven years in Winthrop, Carson takes over the job formerly held by Lisa Gilliam.

Carson, 41, had been the interim town clerk for the past few months. The salary in her new role will be $32,240 annually plus benefits.

Twenty-three people applied for the post, according to Town Manager Jeffrey Woolston.

And hired as the new deputy clerk to fill Carson’s former job is Diane MacDougall, of Monmouth. Her salary will be $26,000 annually, Woolston said, and she is to start work on Monday. Candice Testa, of Winthrop, remains assistant town clerk.
