AUGUSTA — Lithgow Public Library will host a three-part series on sustainability, “It’s Not Easy Being Green,” during the month of May.

* On May 3, Tom and Lee Ann Szelog will present an informational program about the proposed Maine Wood National Park. The multi-media presentation will feature nature photographs and the music of folk singer Pete Seeger.

* Solar energy contractor Tom Fullam will talk about building low-cost, efficient homes on May 10 and give tips on energy efficient improvements in existing homes on May 24. Fullam is a state-certified energy auditor whose monthly utility bill (electricity, heat and hot water) averages less than $40.

* Chuck and Danny Piper of Sundog Solar Store in Searsport will give a presentation on solar energy on May 17. Their talk will include how solar energy works and how to save money by incorporating it into everday life and how to work toward energy independence. Other topics will include solar hot water production, solar electricity, conservation, financial incentives, off-grid applications and environmental impact.

* On May 31, Lisa Turner of Laughing Stock Farm, author of the “Eat Local Cookbook” published by Down East Books, will talk about growing and cooking local, seasonal food.

All programs will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Reading Room, and are free and open to the public.
