The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The trouble isn’t so much that our scientific genius lags behind, but our moral genius lags behind.”

This thought leads to my proposal that need not be enacted by any legislature. This proposal can only be passed or vetoed by each person’s own conscience.

It’s common to hear about the problem of job creation within the realm of politics, but I have another idea: Boycott self-checkout machines.

Self-checkout machines seem to be ever increasing in department stores, box stores and grocery stores. Every time I look at one, I cannot help but to think that somebody was once working where that machine now stands.

Therefore, I have decided not to use them. I do not care if I get the slowest cashier in the world; it somehow feels better to know that the cashier still has a job.

We do not need regulations; we need only choose to do what is right for people who need a job.

Somebody will say that boycotting the self-checkout machines will be harmful to the profit of the companies and somebody has to build those machines. I believe, however, that a business is better off with people working for it because people can do many more things than a machine can.

King understood real people power. Spread the word so we can create jobs with moral genius.
