NEW LONDON, Conn. — Kristine M. Kahl of Monmouth, a senior student at Monmouth Academy, has accepted an appointment to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy.

Kahl was also awarded the 2012 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of academic achievement and volunteer work.

Kahl is member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, varsity basketball, cross country and softball teams, Monmouth Academy Student Helpers, student council, peer tutor program and Academic Decathlon. She is co-president of the senior class. She has volunteered many hours coaching youth basketball and softball and working with non-profit organizations.

Kahl is the daughter of Robert and Danielle Kahl and granddaughter of David and Donna Kahl of West Islip, N.Y., and James and Donna Crawford of Temperance, Mich.
