LITCHFIELD — Water from heavy rain rushed through culverts at Huntington Hill and Stevenstown roads, and the town’s firefighters helped fill sandbags to use if necessary to forestall flooding around Purgatory Dam.
Town Manager Michael Byron said Ron Ridley, public works foreman, said the bags were prepared and stored in the town garage in case they were needed.
Ridley also dug a trench behind the fire station Sunday morning to move water away from the building where it was flooding into the basement, Byron said.

AUGUSTA — A South China man was taken to the hospital Saturday with injuries after the pickup he was driving went off Cross Hill Road near North Belfast Avenue about 7:44 p.m. and rolled onto its side.
Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw said Christopher Hayes, 40, was alone in the truck when it crashed, and Hayes called in the accident himself.
