Maine people let Gov. Angus King sell Plum Creek a beautiful part of our state.

He said it was for forest conservation, for the good of our state, but that promise was not kept.

Now another vulture of our land is about to ruin millions of acres. Peter Vigue of Cianbro wants to build a east-west highway. Why? For profit for himself and his own interest?

Vigue’s estate looks out-of-place in the rural poor town of Pittsfield. It looks like it should be a picture of a house from Newport, R.I., not Pittsfield.

His land should pay for a good percentage of the town’s taxes, but I guess, like most executives, he probably pays less than his share.

I want to warn residents of my home state, the great state of Maine, that they shouldn’t sell their heritage for a dollar. We need to keep the wild beauty of the North Woods, the land for the wildlife I remember. And pass that heritage on to future generations.

We shouldn’t let people like Angus King and Peter Vigue take our land for granted and for profit. Remember, everyone, once it’s paved, it is gone.
