AUGUSTA — Cony High School has announced is top 10 students in the class of 2012.

Erika Burns is the daughter of David and Marcia Burns of Augusta. Burns is vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the field hockey and lacrosse teams, president of Key Club and a member of Student Council and Class Council. She volunteered for a week in February for Safe Passage in Guatemala. In addition, she volunteers at Lithgow Public Library, Ram Camp youth field hockey camp and at the William S. Cohen Community Center. She received the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award, Everett Perkins Award and the Wellesley Book Award. She was selected as a Girls State delegate, attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar and received the Kiwanis Distinguished Youth Award. Burns will major in elementary education at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Allyson Drummond is the daughter of Robert and Vicki Drummond of Augusta. Drummond is a member of the National Honor Society, Kennebec Performing Arts Company, concert/pep band, band council, Chizzle Wizzle, Key Club and Dance Unlimited senior performance company. She volunteers at PALS cat shelter, dance and musical performances at local churches, parades, festivals and community events. She participates in Cony’s Gifted and Talented program, scored magna cum laude on the National Latin Exam, received the Dartmouth alumni book award, received honorable mention in the Kennebec Valley Medical Association essay contest and was selected for the District III Honors Band. Drummond will major in pre-veterinary zoology at the University of Vermont.

Renee Dugal is the daughter of Lynn and Conrad Dugal of Augusta. Dugal has participated in varsity lacrosse, band, chorus, cross country, indoor track, basketball, Outing Club, Key Club, Latin Club and Chizzle Wizzle. She is on the National Honor Society, won honorable mention in the “From the Bow Seat” essay contest and served on the Chizzle Wizzle Executive Committee. She competes in equestrian show jumping. Dugal will major in civil engineering with a minor in renewable energy at the University of Maine.

Bethany Elwell is the daughter of Maureen and Travis Elwell of Augusta. She volunteers at the humane society, Bread of Life Soup Kitchen and Children’s Discovery Museum. She participates in varsity volleyball, basketball and tennis, is a member of the Latin Club and served on the Chizzle Wizzle Ball Committee. She was selected most valuable player for volleyball and is a captain of the volleyball, basketball and tennis teams. Elwell will major in medicine at Quinnipiac University.

Sydney Farrin is the daughter of Todd and Kathleen Farrin of Augusta. Farrin is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, lacrosse team, performance skiing team, Outing Club, Math Team, Cony Madrigals and served as president of Chizzle Wizzle. She plays flute in the band and is a member of Cony Chorale. Farrin has participated in Girl Scouts for 12 years. She is the recipient of the College of the Atlantic Book Award and scored magna cum laude on the National Latin Exam. She has been selected for the District III Honors Band. Farrin will major in neuroscience at St. Lawrence University.

Nicole Liyanage-Don is the daughter of Ratnasiri Liyanage-Don and Maria Jary of Augusta. She is the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa and Yale Book Awards. Liyanage-Don is a member of the National Honor Society and has received the highest score in the state on Level 2 of the National German Exam. She has received high honors all four years of high school. She is the co-editor-in-chief of the Rameses school newspaper, a member of the Key Club Executive Committee, a Girl’s State delegate and has served on the Art Club, Class Council, Civil Rights Team, Spanish Club, German Club and German-American Partnership program. She volunteers as student representative for the Augusta Board of Education; as a mentor with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program; and at the Maine Veterans’ Home. She will major in political science with a concentration in international relations at Harvard College.

Tressa Loiko is the daughter of Tony Loiko and Diane York of Augusta. Loiko is a member of the National Honor Society and was the recipient of the St. Thomas University Book Award. Loiko dances at Kennebec Dance Centre in Augusta. She participates in Dance Team and Key Club. She volunteers for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kennebec Valley. She will major in nursing at the University of New England.

Erin Ludwig is the daughter of Scott and Laura Ludwig of Chelsea. Ludwig is a member of the Key Club, Math Team and National Honor Society. She volunteers at the Kennebec Valley Humane Society and traveled to Guatemala in February to volunteer with Safe Passage. Ludwig will major in entrepreneurship or behavioral psychology at the University of Tampa.

Jade McGuire is the daughter of Sarah and Devin McGuire of Augusta. She is a member of the National Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars. She participates in cross country, track and field, Math Team, Chizzle Wizzle, Latin Club and Key Club. She volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Trek Across Maine. McGuire will major in elementary education at the University of Maine.

Robert Swain is the son of Marsha Swain and Andrew Swain of Augusta. Swain is a member of the varsity tennis and swim teams and also participates in the Latin Club, Math Team and Rameses school newspaper. He was a Boys State delegate and was also selected as a research intern in the Science Department at Colby College. Swain is an Advanced Placement Scholar with distinction and plans on majoring in chemistry at Columbia University.
