WATERVILLE — Graffiti sprayed early Wednesday on at least 11 businesses, signs and buildings in the city is being investigated by police.

Sgt. Alan Main said the green and black words and numbers were spray-painted sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday, from The Concourse to Water Street and up Sherwin Street to Summer Street in the city’s South End.

He said the graffiti appeared on both the South End Deli & Redemption Center and the former KFC building on Water Street; a sign at Hathaway Creative Center, also on Water Street; the skateboard park off Sherwin Street; and stop signs and speed limit signs on Summer Street.

A street also was spray-painted, he said.

“They hit Goodwill here on The Concourse, Weber Insurance, The Framemakers and KFS,” Main said.

He said the spray painting is criminal mischief — a misdemeanor.

Business owners were washing the fresh paint off their property Wednesday, he said.

“It was actually coming off fairly easily,” he said.

Police as of Wednesday afternoon had no suspects, but Main said anyone with information about the graffiti may call police at 680-4700. Officer Adam Sirois is investigating the case.
