BREWER — Kendra Hayward threw a five-hitter with nine strikeouts as Old Town defeated Nokomis, 4-1, in the Eastern B softball final Thursday afternoon at Coffin Field.

Hayward threw first-pitch strikes to the last 25 batters she faced, and had a total of 75 strikes in 92 pitches.

Three of Old Town’s four runs were unearned. The Coyotes also had five hits off Nokomis pitcher Sara Packard. Old Town stole seven bases in eight attempts. Brittany Cousins was 2 for 3 and drove in two runs for the Coyotes.

Nokomis scored in the top of the sixth inning, when Drew Graves singled with two out and came home on a double by Becky Orcutt.
