WATERVILLE — The Waterville Fire Department will test fire hydrants in the city starting July 10.

The testing is to assure the Kennebec Water District’s water distribution system is providing adequate water supply at various locations for fire suppression operations.

Testing will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The schedule is as follows:

Week 1, July 10-12: Waterville Commons, Elm Plaza, in front of and behind K-Mart.

Week 2, July 17-19: Upper Main Street; Champions, Armory Road, Ridge Road, Pleasant Hill Drive.

Week 3, July 24-26: Pleasant Hill Drive, Penny Lane, Eustis Parkway, MaineGeneral Thayer, North Street and Quarry Road.

Week 4, July 31-Aug. 2: Colby College.

Week 5, Aug. 7-9: Colby College.

Week 6, Aug. 14-16: North, Riverview, Oakdale, Edgemont, Fairmont and Colonial streets, Sanger and Elmwood avenues.

Week 7, Aug. 21-23: Pleasantdale and Boutelle avenues, Hillcrest, Prospect and Ruppert streets, and Johnson Heights.

Week 8, Aug. 28-30: Johnson Heights, College Avenue, Union, Front, Colby, Lower Main, Appleton and Temple streets.

Week 9, Sept. 4-6: , Castonguay Square, Lower Main, Common and Common streets.

The Department will try to minimize any negative impact on the water distribution system, but it is normal for water discoloration to occur. They advise homeowners in the affected area to refrain from doing laundry or use dishwashers during the testing period. Any prolonged discoloration should be reported to the Kennebec Water District at 872-2763.
