MANCHESTER, N.H. — Officials say a 2-foot-long alligator was removed from a Manchester pond over the weekend, the second alligator pulled from it in a month.

Authorities say someone fishing in Steven’s Pond hooked the alligator and called police. They think it was a pet that someone released.

Wildlife officials say it is less than a year old. They are unsure if it’s male or female.

WMUR-TV reports that the alligator is being turned over to New England Reptile Distributors in Plaistow, which will care for it.

Alligators live primarily in the Southeastern United States, mostly in Louisiana and Florida. Large American alligators can grow to 15 feet and weigh nearly 1,000 pounds.
