FARMINGTON — TerraCycle’s UpCycling program will come to Franklin County to benefit the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area.
TerraCycle’s goal is to eliminate the idea of waste by creating collection and solution systems for anything that must be sent to a landfill. It does this by creating national recycling systems for previously non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle waste. The organization then converts the collected waste into a variety of products and materials.
Collected items:
* Solo cups (six plastic cups), including Dunkin’ Donuts cups used for cold drinks.
* Foil-lined wrappers, typically used for energy/granola/cereal bars.
* Beauty products and their packaging — as long as it is not cardboard. Examples include: lipstick cases, shampoo bottles, deodorant (other than aerosol).
* Oral care products and its packaging, as long as it is not cardboard, examples include: toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, plastic packaging, dental floss packaging and containers.
* Pouch drinks, any brand of drink pouches.
* Lunchable packaging, all parts of the lunch kit, excluding the cardboard.
* Diaper packaging, any brand and size of outer plastic packaging on diaper or wipes products.
* Cheese packaging from single slice wraps, the plastic bag packaging.
* Tortilla packaging, any tortilla and tostada packaging.
Needed items: Granola bar packaging, pouch drinks and no. 6 plastic cups.
