WATERVILLE — Maxwell Kenney recently received the 2012 Joseph B. Ezhaya Scholarship.

Kenney is a 2012 Lawrence High School graduate.

As a student at Lawrence, Kenney was part of the National Honors Society, captain of the varsity soccer team and tennis club and the editor on the yearbook committee. He often volunteered for the Muskie Center, including delivery assistant for the Meals-on-Wheels program.

Kenney plans to major in environmental engineering at the University of New Hampshire.

The scholarship is given in memory of Joseph Ezhaya, a dedicated community volunteer. The emphasis on this scholarship is placed on citizenship and community service. Requirements include the recipient graduate from a secondary school in the mid-Maine region and plan to attend a post-secondary school located in New England. Recipients receive $750 towards their education after successfully completing their first semester with a C-average or higher.
