AUGUSTA — A judge on Tuesday ordered an Oakland man to serve 13 months behind bars on driving and drug violations.

Michael E. Grant, 28, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to charges of operating under the influence and operating after revocation, which occurred April 8 in Augusta, and unlawful trafficking in drugs, which occurred May 1 in Clinton.

A plea agreement worked out between his attorney and the prosecutor and approved by a judge resulted in a sentence of four years in prison, with all but 13 months suspended, and two years of probation. Grant was also fined $2,580 and his driver’s license and registration privileges were suspended for three years.

“He has a history of substance violations and he does have a problem,” said Grant’s attorney Luann Calcagnini. “His intention is to get into CARA program at jail.”

The Criminogenic Addiction & Recovery Academy at the Kennebec County jail is aimed at treating inmates’ substance abuse while reprogramming criminal thinking that leads to illegal activity.

A number of other people were sentenced in separate hearings Tuesday in the same court:
