CHINA — Travis Pitre of Boy Scout Troop 479 was recently honored for earning the rank of Eagle Scout at a celebration at the Unity College Centre for Performing Arts.

Advance Chairman Ron Emery served as master of ceremonies and Phil Hubbard of the Palermo Christian Church gave the invocation. The ceremony was attended by Rep. David Cotta, R-China.

Participating in the ceremony were Eagle Scouts Cameron Campbell, Jason Grotton, Alex Collins, Aaron Taylor, Brandyn Hurd and Wayne Pitre, and Scoutmaster Scott Adams and Assistant Scoutmaster Matt Bodine.

Pitre’s Eagle project was to replace the aging informational kiosk at the China Lake boat landing, a project funded by the China Lake Association and supervised by CLA Director Tim Axelson. The kiosk features maps of China Lake and information about invasive species. It was designed by Rick Hayden, and is now located closer to the boat ramp and includes a bench.

Pitre is the son of Dale and Mary-Cay Pitre of South China. He recently completed his freshmen year at Unity College.
