AUGUSTA — The deadline is closing in to submit paper applications for the 2012 any-deer permit lottery.
Applicants have until 5 p.m. Friday to apply in person at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife or by mail.
Online applications, which can be found at www.mefishwildlife.com, are due by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15.
The game department no longer mails paper applications.
It’s free to apply for the any-deer or antlerless deer permit lottery. The drawing will be held Sept. 7.
A total of 34,160 any-deer permits will be issued in 13 of Maine’s 29 wildlife management districts for this year’s white tail deer hunting season, which begins in late October. It is bucks only in all other wildlife management districts.
