FARMINGTON — A Mount Vernon man wanted as a fugitive for not registering as a sex offender turned himself in to authorities Tuesday, police said.

Tobin A. Fournier, 33, was being held Thursday at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison.

Lt. Niles Yeaton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said Fournier learned about additional warrants for his arrest out of Farmington District Court for operating under the influence and operating with a suspended license. He was also wanted on an assault charge in Lewiston, Yeaton said. Fournier showed up at the sheriff’s department Tuesday.

He was not, however, aware of warrants for his arrest out of Maricopa County, Ariz., charging two counts of failure to register as a sex offender, Yeaton said. Those warrants seek his extradition to Arizona.

The Denver Post reported in 2007 that Fournier was arrested in Denver for failing to register as a sex offender. The Post reported that Fournier was charged with first-degree sexual assault in Clear Creek County in 2000. He pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual assault and attempted sexual assault the following year when he began a four-year prison sentence, the Post reported, citing CBI records.
