Two people were arrested following a report of shots fired at a Yarmouth home early Sunday morning.

At least 12 shots were fired outside of 24 Granite St. in Yarmouth at about 1 a.m., according to police. No one was hurt in the incident. Shots hit a parked vehicle and the house, according to police.

Michael Lovering, 47, of North Yarmouth was charged with aggravated reckless conduct with a firearm. Samantha Newton, 31, of Yarmouth was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Sgt. Dan Gallant of the Yarmouth Police Department said police were responding to a disturbance on Granite Street when it “escalated and gunfire was exchanged between the resident” and Lovering. He said the people involved knew each other but police are still investigating what led to the shooting.

“There was some sort of issue between the parties where it escalated to this,” Gallant said.

Police did not identify the male resident involved in the shooting. A revolver and a semi-automatic pistol were recovered by police.

Lovering’s car was stopped by police on Granite Street shortly after the shots were fired.

Police were still trying to determine if Newton fired a gun during the incident, Gallant said.

The house is located at the dead-end of Granite Street, a tree-lined road with few houses. On Sunday, the yard of 24 Granite St. was scattered with lawn chairs and toys.

Brandon Stearns, who lives across with street with his wife, Jean, said four or five gunshots woke him up around 1 a.m. He said it is unusual to hear gunshots in the quiet neighborhood.

“We’re just grateful everyone is OK,” Jean Stearns said. “Hopefully they can resolve their issues.”

Newton was released from jail Sunday on $100 bail. Lovering is being held on $10,000 bail.

Gallant said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming.
