Girl, 6, flown to Portland following Route 202 crash
MONMOUTH — A 6-year-old Readfield girl was taken by medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland following a two-vehicle crash on Route 202 at Blue Road.
Melissa Tims, 33, of Readfield, had her two daughters, ages 6 and 3, in the car Saturday morning at about 10 a.m.. She was driving west on Route 202 and attempting to make a left turn onto Blue Road.
Although the crash is still under investigation, Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin said it seems Tims looked in the rearview mirror and thought a vehicle was about to hit hers from behind, so tried to make the turn quickly.
A Chevy Impala traveling east struck the passenger side of Tims’ Pontiac Grand Am. The 6-year-old girl was sitting in the rear passenger seat, Mulherin said.
The Impala was driven by Louise Reissfelder, 46, of Lewiston, who had her 10-year-old daughter with her. No one else was seriously injured in the crash, Mulherin said.
Mulherin said that at midafternoon Saturday he was informed that the 6-year-old was awake and receiving a CT scan at Maine Medical Center.
