Author John Ford Sr. will discusses his book “Suddenly the Cider Didn’t Taste So Good, Adventures of a Game Warden in Maine” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the New Portland Community Library.

A retired game warden, Ford lives in Brooks. During his 20 years on patrol in central Maine, he kept a diary and entertained locals with his stories. He began writing for the VillageSoup websites, papers and Northwoods Sporting Journal newspaper, winning first place for a sports column in the 2007 Maine Better Newspaper Contest with “Memories from a Game Warden’s Diary.” He was encouraged to recount his humorous and sometimes frightening encounters with criminals in this compilation of short stories, with a second book in the works, according to a news release.

The library is at 899 River Road (Route 146) in New Portland, across from the town office. Refreshments will be served.

Direct book inquiries to jonnylaw@fairpoint.net, local libraries. Books will be available for purchase and signing the night of the event.
