PHIPPSBURG — Abie Poirier and Matthew Whitney were married June 2, 2012, at Hermit Island in Phippsburg.

The bride is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Poirier of Mercer. The groom is the son of Mark and Donice Whitney, also of Mercer.

Brandy Ireland was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Kira Knowles, Katie Poirier, Megan Chase and Amy Demerchant.

Brett Laplante was best man. Ushers were Andy Mannett, Adam Gardner, Jared Lancaster, Ben Hilton and a very special usher, his brother Todd Whitney.

A reception was held at the Kelp Shed, catered by Heritage House of Skowhegan.

Mrs. Whitney is a graduate of Skowhegan Area High School and Southern Maine with a bachelor of fine arts concentration in painting. She is employed by the Augusta School District as a coach for JV field hockey and softball. She also owns Lady Landscape.

Mr. Whitney is a graduate of Skowhegan Area High School and Skowhegan Vocational Center in the carpentry program. He attended Southern Maine Community College for construction tech. He is employed by Vern Worthen Carpentry in Mercer as well as his company, Whitney Building.

The couple took a wedding trip to the Dominican Republic and live in Belgrade.
