Power outage closes Whitten Road Hannaford meat, dairy department
AUGUSTA — A power outage that affected 64,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers Friday apparently forced a local grocery store to close its meat and dairy department Saturday.
The Hannaford supermarket on Whitten Road posted an employee at the store’s main entrance to tell customers that “the meat and dairy departments” were down, but that milk and eggs were still available. A store manager declined to comment, and a corporate spokesman for the grocery chain did not return a phone call Saturday.
By 4 p.m., CMP had restored power to all but 2,140 CMP customers scattered throughout the state, according to the power company. All power was expected to be restored by Saturday evening.

9:43 p.m., shoplifting was reported at Walmart on Civic Center Drive.
9:47 p.m., disorderly conduct was reported at Shaw’s supermarket on Western Avenue.
SATURDAY
At 2:32 a.m., disorderly conduct was reported at Cheryl Dostie Apartments on Crosby Street Place.
1:11 p.m., a car fire was reported at Walmart on Civic Center Drive.
1:42 p.m., an aggravated assault was reported on North Street Place.
3:06 p.m., a hit-and-run accident was reported at U-Haul on Western Avenue.

At 3:22 a.m., Jerica J. Reny, 22, of Winslow, was arrested on a warrant at the Cumberland Farms store on Mount Vernon Avenue.
