Somerset County farmers receive grants

Heart of Maine, with funding from the Walmart Foundation, recently launched a program to provide vegetable farmers in Somerset, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties up to $1,000 in matching funds so that they can build their own walk-in coolers using the invention, called CoolBot. Oakland’s Pelletier earns sportsmanship scholarship

LYNNFIELD, Mass. — Haley Pelletier of Oakland was recently awarded a $5,000 Hood Sportsmanship Scholarships presented by Hood Milk during a ceremony at Gillette Stadium. Pelletier will graduate from Messalonskee High School and plans to attend the University of New England.

Maine Elks recognize youth contest winners

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The Maine Elks Association recently honored several youths from across the state as part of its 83rd annual State Convention held at Sugarloaf Mountain Resort. The awards were presented at a banquet, attended by more than 200 members, guests and families of the recipients.
