WATERVILLE — Margo MacKenzie recently graduated magna cum laude from Thomas College with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She is the daughter of Michelle MacKenzie of Waterville and Jerry MacKenzie of Sidney.

New Farmers Market to open June 1
OAKLAND — A farmers market will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Fridays, starting June 1, and will run weekly through the summer. The market will be open at 895 Kennedy Memorial Drive, in the Pine Acres Parking lot.
Police academy announces graduates
VASSALBORO — Maine’s 40 newest police officers recently graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. The officers received their badges following 18 weeks of study and training at the Vassalboro training facility. According to press release, Maine Attorney General William Schneider told the graduates, “The Maine Criminal Justice Academy consistently turns outstanding young cadets into modern law enforcement officers whose courage, commitment and daily efforts keep our citizens safe. These are Maine’s finest and I am pleased to join the Academy staff, families and friends in welcoming them to our law enforcement community.” Many of the new officers will be begin patrolling immediately, including during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Central Maine artists win illustration awards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Russ Cox of Pittsfield, and Hazel Mitchell of Detroit, two children’s book illustrators working from their studios in central Maine, recently received top honors for their artwork at the New England Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ conference held in Springfield.
