The federal government on Thursday announced new proposed rules that would give states more power to combat food stamp fraud — something one central Maine lawmaker attempted, but couldn’t because of federal rules, during the legislative session.

Quilts, new and old, needed for show

FAIRFIELD CENTER — The Fairfield Historical Society Quilt Show committee is looking for quilts, old and new, to display at its biennial quilt show. The show is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at the North Fairfield Friends Meeting House, Route 104.
