WATERVILLE — The Central Maine Creating Assets, Savings and Hope Coalition will launch its annual service of free tax preparation. The coalition is one of several providing free tax-preparation services throughout Maine.

Embden gets new signs

EMBDEN — The Embden Historical Society’s Special Fund Committee recently facilitated the acquisition of seven new welcome signs. The signs were installed in November by Jim Lightbody Sr. and were designed by Gary York of York Signs. Each sign features a picture of the Embden Town House, built in 1849.

Move and Improve program begins Feb. 1

WATERVILLE — The free Move and Improve program will begin Wednesday, Feb. 1, with site coordinator training and will run for 12 weeks through March 4 at Inland Hospital. The program offers ideas, support and encouragement for people to become more physically active.

US troops must keep big picture in mind

Brutality is a fact of war. America’s enemies have long practiced it, and so in some instances have our troops. None of that makes it any easier to stomach, so U.S. officials’ outrage about an incident in Afghanistan that allegedly involved Camp Lejeune-based Marines is genuine.
