Arming schools isn’t the answer, regulation is

Responding to Maine Gun Owners Association’s President Jeff Weinstein’s (article, Dec. 21): “The best and only protection you have from the bad guy’s gun is your own,” is as tactical as suggesting the best way to protect yourself from drunken drivers is to drive drunk yourself. This thought won’t resolve anything. Is Weinstein willing to pay all salaries, training, liabilities, consequences etc. that could go wrong?

New Year’s resolution for Legislature: Let’s get along and get some work done

My wife, Birdie, gets appropriately irritated with me when I suggest New Year’s resolutions she might want to consider for herself. “Stick to your own,” she tells me. So it is with some trepidation that I suggest one resolution for a whole bunch of people … the 186 incoming members of the 126th Legislature. Here it is: “Let’s work together. Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Red Sox fans, Yankees fans — all of us.”
