A St. Francis man was pulled from the St. John River in St. Francis Saturday night following a snowmobile accident.

The Maine Warden Service said Travis Albert, 28, and Joshua Jandreau, 28, both of St. Francis, were operating separate snowmobiles when they hit unstable ice near an open channel in the river.

Albert did not make it across and became submerged in the water. Jandreau was able to call for help and citizen volunteers and members of the St. Francis Fire Department pulled Albert to safety.

Albert was treated for hypothermia and a broken rib at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. Albert was taken into custody on several outstanding arrest warrants.

The Maine Warden Service is still investigating the incident.
