CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A 16-year-old girl, who struck a tree while skiing at the Sugarloaf Mountain ski area Sunday morning, suffered what appeared to be a non-life threatening head injury.
“She was responsive when she left here in the ambulance,” said Ethan Austin, a spokesman for the ski area.
Austin said the girl was taken by ambulance to the Carrabasett Valley airport before being flown to a hospital. Austin did not know which hospital she was taken to.
The girl, whose name was unavailable, was skiing on the Candy Side trail around 10 a.m. when she hit a tree. Austin said she was wearing a helmet. Candy Side is divided into two sections, one for intermediate and the other part for beginners.
