Teens arrested in knife-threat incident at Cony High School

AUGUSTA — Two students were arrested at Cony High School Friday after a Thursday night incident that spilled over to the school the next day.

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on a probation violation and a 12-year-old boy on an assault charge after a fight in which another student showed a small pocket knife, said Augusta police Lt. Christopher Massey.

Police were called to the school around 10:45 a.m. after one student threatened another student with a knife in the food court, said interim principal Kim Silsby. No one was hurt and staff, school security and Augusta Police responded quickly, she said.

“It was an issue between two students that was ongoing,” she said. “At no point were there other students at risk.”

The 12-year-old was released to his parents, and the 14-year-old was being held on a probation violation as of Friday afternoon, Massey said.

Motorcycle rider hurt in Augusta accident on Friday

AUGUSTA — Police responded to North Belfast Avenue and Bolton Hill Road at 12:29 p.m. Friday for the first significant motorcycle accident of the year, Augusta police Lt. Christopher Massey said.

A single motorcycle rider — Massey did not have the name — was reportedly speeding and popped a wheelie when he lost control and crashed his 2000 Kawasaki, he said. Although the man had minor injuries, Massey wanted to remind motorists that motorcycles will start using area roads again soon.

In this instance, the rider was wearing a helmet, which likely prevented more serious injuries, Massey said. There also continues to be sand and dirt on the roads, posing an additional hazard for motorcyclists.
