WATERVILLE —  Emergency workers Wednesday afternoon responded to the arboretum trails at Colby College after a hiker reported a man was lying face down on the ground and not moving.

Police, firefighters and Colby security and emergency medical personnel hiked about a half-mile into the woods over rough terrain just after 2 p.m. and found the man, who reportedly has mental health problems.

He was escorted out of the woods and got into a Delta ambulance parked off Mayflower Hill Drive, near Mount Merici Avenue.

Police Chief Joseph Massey said later he thinks the man’s relatives were contacted and that the man faced no criminal charges.

“He didn’t break any law,” Massey said.

No further information about the incident was available.
