SMITHFIELD — Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a Monday night fire at Camp Matoaka that destroyed a two-story maintenance building.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported around 8 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Fire Chief Jody Easler. Firefighters from Oakland, Sidney, Belgrade, Rome and Norridgewock helped put out the blaze and were at the site until around 3:30 a.m., Easler said.

Camp owner Jason Silberman said Tuesday the insured building was full of tools and equipment. He said the building will be rebuilt and would have no impact on this year’s camp season, which begins June 23.
