OAKLAND — Tree Spirits winery and distillery was recently awarded a Double Gold medal at the 13th annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its pear brandy.
Judges each gave the brandy a gold medal in the competition against brandies from around the world, according to a news release from the Oakland-based company.
The brandy is the fourth Tree Spirits product to have been awarded a medal in the competition.
Tree Spirits was opened in 2010 by Bruce Olson and Karen Heck, who is also the mayor of Waterville. They have been making wine for the past 15 years using a variety of fruit.
Tree Spirits is a member of the Maine Wine Guild and is a stop on the Maine Wine Trail. Their tasting room is open Thursday through Saturday and they distribute their sparkling wines from Orono to Freeport.
