WESTWOOD, Mass. — A Westwood woman is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly attacking her 9-year-old daughter with a set of electric hedge clippers.

Police say both the woman and the girl were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Chief Jeff Silva says the girl’s father stepped in to stop the attack reported at about 5 a.m. Monday. Another young child in the home was unharmed.

Thirty-nine-year-old Maureen Mullin was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at an arraignment on charges including of attempted murder, assault and battery on a child and mayhem at her hospital bedside on Monday. It was not clear who her lawyer was.

Police did not say what sparked the situation.
