CHINA — Madison Bodine was recently honored for attaining the rank of Eagle Scouts in the Boys Scouts of America during a celebration at the China Lake Conference Center.

Bodine is junior assistant scoutmaster of Troop 479, China. The ceremony was attended by friends, family members, elected officials and other scouts.

The Court of Honor was called to order by Troop 479 Committee member Kelly Pillsbury. Eagle Scout Chase Drummond opened the ceremony. Andrew Gilbert of Indianapolis, Ind., Bodine’s cousin, led the Pledge of Allegiance and Dale Peabody led the invocation.

Scouts Richard Crouse and Jeff Kierstead were called forward to light candles as the Scout Law was read by Scouts Daniel Brown, Jacob Brown, Daniel Constanzer, Denver Cullivan, Chris Morry and Joe Morry.

Scoutmaster Scott Adams of Troop 479 served as chairman of the Court of Honor. Star Scout Angelo Sacks told the story of the Legend of Eagle Mountain and Eagle Scout Cameron Campbell read the Scout Challenge.

Also participating were Eagle Scouts Jon Fortier and Dillon Clifford, Advance Chair Ron Emery, Assistant Scoutmaster Doug Leonard and his parents, Matt and Nancy Bodine of South China.

Special guests were Sen. Roger Katz, Rep. David Cotta, Kelly Grotton of the town of China, and Charles Mahaleris representing Kennebec Valley District.

Bodine presented the mentor pin to his father for always being available to help him.

In his troop, Bodine is a member of the Order of the Arrow. His Eagle Scout project was to locate, map and mark a trail to the Talbot Cemetery in China and to provide maintenance at the cemetery.

Bodine is a junior at Erskine Academy in South China. He is on the swim team and the soccer team.
