WATERVILLE — Bishop Richard J. Malone, apostolic administrator for the Diocese of Portland, recently announced the Rev. Dominic Savio, who is in residence at Good Shepherd Parish in Saco, has been appointed parochial vicar at Corpus Christi Parish in Waterville, starting Sept. 1.

Savio is a member of the Heralds of Good News, a missionary society of apostolic life from India.

St. Mark’s Church

dedicates Peace Pole

WATERVILLE — St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will dedicate its new Peace Pole on Sunday at the conclusion of its 9 a.m. service.

The Peace Pole project was originated by the World Peace Prayer society in 1955 in Japan to spread the message and prayer, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

This message is on the St. Mark’s pole in four languages — English, French, Greek, and Arabic — to reflect some of the major ethnic groups and languages that comprise the community of greater Waterville.

All are welcome to join in the service and dedication. St. Mark’s Church is at the corner of North Street and Eustis Parkway.

Hyssongs to perform

gospel in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD–The Hyssongs will present a concert of gospel music at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Smithfield Baptist Church, Lakeview Drive.

Dell, Susan and Richard Hyssong travel full time as the award-winning Hyssongs. Their family ministry combines vocal harmony, humor and brass instruments.

The group has been singing as a family for more than 15 years.
