Two Maine women made it through the 2013 World Triathlon Series grand finals in London Friday.

Ann Dillon, 62, of Yarmouth, a music teacher at North Yarmouth Memorial School and Greely Middle School in Cumberland, and Beth Birch, 72, of New Gloucester, a former trainer, were members of the U.S.  team  and among several Mainers at finals which include a dozen events during five days.

Dillon finished 54th among the 63 competitors in her age group, completing the course in one hour, 54 minutes and 37 seconds.

Birch finished seventh among eight competitors in her age group, completing the course in two hours 29 minutes and 16 seconds.

They both competed on a course through Hyde Park that included a 3-mile run, 12-mile bike ride and half-mile swim.

The two became friends when Dillon began to train with Birch. Birch has competed in more than 100 triathlons. This was Dillon’s sixth competition.
