NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Men from up and down the eastern seaboard are participating in a competition to see who has the best beard.
The Beardhampton festival is scheduled for Saturday night at Diva’s Nightclub in Northampton.
Whisker-wearers from as far away as Virginia and Maine will compete for prizes for best natural full beard and freestyle moustache, among other honors. Seventy people have confirmed that they plan to compete.
Bert Mayer, a Williamsburg native who moved to Boston and founded the Boston Beard Bureau, is organizing the event.
He tells The Daily Hampshire Gazette more and more competitions have been cropping up in the U.S. over the last few years. Beard contests have been big in Europe for years.
