A high-speed police chase that wound through southern Maine, into New Hampshire and then back into Maine ended Monday night with the arrest of a Newfield man, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

At one point, William Zerveskes, 31, tried to ram the cruiser of a York County sheriff’s deputy in Waterboro and, while on Range Road in Limerick, where his speed exceeded 100 mph, he turned off his lights to throw off police, said York County Chief Deputy William King.

Zerveskes eventually surrendered in Acton. Nobody was injured.

The chase started about 9:30 p.m. Monday when Scarborough police pulled over a 1992 Volvo driven by Zerveskes. Zerveskes had several outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on charges of drunken driving and driving with a suspended license.

After initially pulling over, Zerveskes drove off headed toward Buxton, the sheriff’s office said. What followed was a high-speed chase through eight towns, including briefly into Wakefield, N.H., and back into Maine.

The chase lasted about a half-hour.

Zerveskes is being held on $1,000 bail on charges of eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and violating bail conditions, the sheriff’s office said. Police except to bring additional charges.

He faces a Nov. 6 court date in York County Superior Court in Alfred.
